FLORIDA’S
CRITICAL SHORTAGE PROGRAM “Each
school year Florida school districts face the challenge of filling
more than 16,000 teacher positions. Even though Florida continues
to experience a critical need for additional teachers, the number
of graduates in teacher education is lower than it was five years
ago.”
* (Florida State Board of Education)
In consequence, the Florida Department of Education has developed
programs to address this Critical Teacher Shortage, and encourage
the development of the teaching profession.
Critical Teacher Shortage Student Loan Forgiveness Program
The State of Florida’s Department of Education provides
financial assistance to eligible Florida teachers through the Critical
Teacher Shortage Student Loan Forgiveness Program for the repayment
of undergraduate and graduate educational loans which led to certification
in a critical teacher shortage subject area. Applicants may receive
up to a maximum of $10,000 for the duration of the program. For
more information regarding this program, contact the Florida Department
of Education.
Critical Teacher Shortage Tuition Reimbursement Program
The State of Florida’s Department of Education created this
program for the purpose of improving skills and knowledge of certified
full-time publicly funded school employees currently teaching or
preparing to teach in a Pre K-12 critical teacher shortage area
as approved by the State Board of Education. Applicants funded
through the program may receive limited tuition reimbursement for
up to nine (9) semester hours, or the equivalent quarter hours
per academic year, for a program
maximum of thirty-six (36) cumulative semester hours or the equivalent.
